In its purest form, beryl is completely colorless. However, tiny traces of impurities transform it into a spectrum of vivid hues — from lush greens and deep blues to delicate pinks and vibrant reds.
The most prized variety is the lush green emerald, colored by chromium or vanadium. It is followed by the serene blue aquamarine and golden heliodor—both tinted by iron—along with the delicate pink morganite, infused with manganese. Some beryls, when cut en cabochon, reveal mesmerizing asterism (a star-like reflection) or chatoyancy (the shimmering ‘cat’s eye’ effect).
